Whether you’re looking to earn your certification, or are an experienced diver looking for a new adventure, knowing the best scuba diving destinations is a must. Ideal conditions, exciting sights, and overall accessibility are the traits that describe the best diving spots. All across the globe there are underwater locations that offer the best scuba diving experiences possible, even for the most seasoned of travelers. No two dive trips are the same, which means there is always new opportunities to explore, no matter where you are in the world.
Experienced divers will have different needs than those looking to learn, and depending on which category you fit under, the best diving destination for you will vary. The best conditions for learning are calm, clear and shallow waters. A more advanced diver might want more of a challenge, such as the thrill of wreck or cave diving. If you are looking to gain your certification, your dive destination options will be more broad. Cave and wreck diving are very specific, and often a rare find in some areas of the world.
If you’re just starting out in the world of scuba diving, the best way to learn is to book a vacation resort that offers lessons. This gives you the one on one experience you’ll need, with the best conditions possible. Many individuals book beach or island resorts for their holiday, and these resorts often offer a private scuba instructor. Eliminating the stress of a large class size, and replacing it with the relaxing atmosphere of a vacation, you are more likely to be successful in your lessons. Many resorts feature several pools, as well as a location near a secluded bay, or other calm waters, which are all ideal circumstances for learning.
The more advanced and adventurous divers may be looking to hop on a plane to find the most exotic dive experiences possible. As voted by other scuba diving enthusiasts, the best diving destinations in the world are often found in Australia, the Egyptian Red Sea, Thailand, Micronesia and Indonesia. Other islands, such as the Maldives, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Fiji and the Galapagos are also rated as the most coveted diving locations in the world. Popular dive trips include: a night dive off the coast of Hawaii with Manta Rays, the Great Blue Hole in Belize, and the Shark and Yolanda Reef in the Egypt’s Red Sea. Whether it’s for their crystal clear waters and high visibility or their underwater sights, your fellow scuba divers have voted these as the best diving destinations.
Although many of the most popular vacation destinations in the world offer great scuba diving opportunities, you might have to go out of your way to get the best of the best. Clear waters and sandy beaches don’t always mean ideal diving conditions, so if you’re looking to earn your certification, choose your destination wisely. Key points to keep in mind are visibility, swell and currents, and attractions such as reefs or wrecks.

very good article and I have to say in my 26 year diving career diving all over the world I personally think the best diving for big animal life is the Galapagos Islands without a shadow of doubt but I also really enjoyed diving Cocos Island in Costa Rica which also had fantastic big animals. For Corals and color the RED SEA was fantastic however that was in 1985 and i hear the volume of divers has had an impact there. But it was stunning in 85.
